Spring 2026 Concert

When: Sunday 19 April 2026, 5:30-9:30 pm

  • 5:30: Call time. Everyone arrives for warm-up and sound checks

  • 6:30: Prepare stage; Prepare for audience

  • 7:00: Concert

  • 8:30: Reception and refreshments

  • 9:00: Pack up

  • 9:30: Exit building

Dress code: Anything modest that suits your taste! Colorful is good. If you prefer all black, please add something for a splash of color.

Where: Alexandria Lyceum, 201 S Washington St, Alexandria, VA 22314. Take the grand staircase up to the performance room on the second floor. There is a small elevator you can use.

Bring: Music stand with your name on it. Stand light (optional but can be helpful).

Parking: Limited spots available in the side lot (enter from Washington St.) You can park temporarily and unload there. Additional street parking is nearby on Washington and Prince Streets.

Cases and seating: Please put your instrument cases along the wall on the left side. While you are not playing, please sit in the last couple of rows on the left side.

Sound checks: We will have time for each ensemble to have 5-10 minutes on the stage for warmup and sound check.

  1. Quartet: Bach, Goldberg variations (arr), Foote, string quartet #1, 1st Mvt. Paula (v1), Bettina (v2), Grace (va), James (vc). .

  2. Clarinet trio: Brahms . Nathan (cl), Tiago (vc), Cate (p).

  3. Quartet: Dvorak, American Quartet, Op. 96 No 12. Mary Beth (v1), Kaye E (v2), Lisa F (va), Makayla D (vc).

  4. Piano trio: Beethoven Trio Op 1 No. 1. Cooper (p), Virginia (v), Zachary (vc).

  5. Large ensemble: Vivaldi Concerto for Two Cellos RV 531.

Vivaldi ensemble:

  • Soloists — Cello 1: Tiago; Cello 2: Ralph.

  • Ripieno — Violin 1: Mary Beth, Kaye; Violin 2: Joan, Virginia; Viola: Grace, Amanda, Michael; Cello: Zachary; Bass: Simon.

  • Rehearsal 1: Sunday 3/29 3:00 pm, Ralph’s house, Alexandria

  • Rehearsal 2: Sunday 4/12 3:00 pm, Ralph’s house, Alexandria

  • Parts: Cello 1 (solo), Cello 2 (solo), Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello/Bass, Score

  • Please watch this recording. I recommend listening while following the score several times to internalize the entries and timings. We will not have a conductor.

  • Note that the RV number in IMSLP is incorrect. The correct number is RV 531.
